Capital Campaign/Construction

Aging infrastructure, and major building code changes anticipated in 2018, required the Board of Directors of the Massawippi Retirement Communities to formulate a new plan. With significant input from our Eastern Townships community, we have come up with an exciting Vision for Renewal – two dynamic facilities with one shared vision of providing an unparalleled continuum of care and support within a shared community for seniors.

The Project

The New Grace Village Pavilion

Grace Pavilion

Settled on 60 acres in the borough of Lennoxville, City of Sherbrooke, the New Grace Village is bound to impress anyone upon arrival. Residents, visitors and neighbors will delight in the forested walking and ski trails, gardens, outdoor recreational facilities and a village proper that provides a mix of independent living residences adjacent to our newly conceived main facility. Our new pavilion will include up to 120 rooms. Designed for those seniors needing more one-on-one care, the Grace Village main facility will offer a full range of care through the spectrum of semi-autonomous, loss of autonomy and specialized care. This expansion will meet a rising need for memory care such as Alzheimer’s and dementia, conditions that impact so many seniors and families. Improved teaching facilities will ensure a continuing partnership with our area’s learning institutions and the maintenance of contemporary care practices.

The MRC is also committed to providing high quality care for Grace Village residents, regardless of his or her financial circumstances. We never want to turn away a resident based on a lack of financial means and therefore seniors who are unable to pay the full cost of care will be subsidized through funds donated to the Dr. W. J. Klinck Foundation.

The New Connaught Apartments for Senior Living

Connaught Plans Under Development

As the only one of its kind in North Hatley and the surrounding area, this new, age-friendly apartment complex is designed to facilitate senior living. This is the vision of the new Connaught Apartments for Senior Living in North Hatley. Designed for the autonomous senior – and keeping to the historical features of the building – the new Connaught Apartments will be an architecturally attractive apartment complex for seniors wanting to live in a secure and comfortable independent living environment filled with amenities. Seniors living at Connaught Apartments will come to enjoy living in the core of the vibrant, world renowned destination village of North Hatley on the shores of picturesque Lake Massawippi.

Basic care needs and access to qualified medical care support staff will be available from our mobile team based at Grace Village. Residents who may later develop more advanced care needs will be given priority for a move to Grace Village just a short distance away.

Campaign FAQ

What is the financial objective of the Capital Campaign?

The financial objective is $14,000,000 in donations and pledges spread over 5 years. Originally, the objective was $12,000,000 but with a generous donation of $2,000,000 towards a planned future 4th wing to the Grace Village pavilion, to be completed at the same time as the rest of the building, this increased the objective.

Can a donation be pledged over a number of years?

Yes. Donors may spread their contribution over 5 years, allowing the MRC to plan to meet the costs of construction for our projects for renewal.

Who is being invited to contribute to the Capital Campaign?

The MRC & Dr. W. J. Klinck Foundation’s boards of directors, committee members, and staff have contributed, and we are also seeking the support of friends, local businesses, private foundations, families, and any person who wants to support the MRC.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. The Dr. W. J. Klinck Foundation is a registered charity. Your donation will result in an official receipt being issued for income tax purposes.

How soon do you plan to start building?

We have already begun! Our Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Grace Village pavilion occurred in June, 2016 and construction began in August, 2016. The building of the new Connaught will occur after the current residents have moved into the new Grace pavilion.

Campaign Launch

On April 23, 2016, along with five hundred friends and neighbours from our community, we celebrated the launch of our first ever capital fundraising campaign with a spectacular concert performed by The Next Generation Leahy. The atmosphere at Bishop’s University Centennial Theatre was incredible!

Connaught Plans Under Development

Moving Bungalows

During the month of July, 2016 the two assisted-living bungalows located on Campbell Street were moved to another part of the Grace Village property, to make room for the new Pavilion. Residents, staff, neighbours & community members spent time onsite watching the moves as the bungalows were split in half, then moved one-half at a time.

Grace Pavilion

Groundbreaking Ceremony

July 21, 2016 marked the day of our Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Grace Village Pavilion! Along with neighbours, friends, and dignitaries, we celebrated the preparation of the site for the brand new building. Steve & Barbara Allatt, the co-chairs of the fundraising campaign, were on hand to help Mrs. Clair Fisk, the first matron of Grace Village, ceremonially turn the sod.
